Mesterolone is an anabolic-androgenic steroid, which is used in medicine for treating male hypogonadism (reduced function of testicles) caused by an insufficient production of testosterone, for treating of diseases, which need the presence of body proteins, and for fight against male osteoporosis. Mesterolone does not affect the natural production of testosterone, but acts as its direct synthetic replacement.
Effects of mesterolone
Mesterolone has very strong androgenic effects, thus it is very popular in the area of bodybuilding, even when its anabolic effects are very low. It has very strong antiestrogenic effects, for this reason, it is used as a supplement to the anabolic-androgenic steroids, which could cause troubles with typical estrogenic side effects. Mesterolone does not block the estrogenic receptors, but directly prevents the aromatization and with this process, it prevents the formation of estrogens.
However, in last time, mesterolone has been used also for its anabolic effects. It provides perfectly hard, tight and cut muscles.
Mesterolone side effects
Side effects of mesterolone are not very serious, even if the use of the substance lasts several weeks. Thanks to its antiestrogenic effects, there can be no complications connected with the estrogenic side effects, for example Gynecomastia or excessive water retention. When lower doses are used, its toxic influence on liver and kidneys is unlikely, as well. Because of strong androgenic effects, the use of mesterolone leads quite often to long lasting erection, which can be even painful. By women, its use may cause virilisation.
The average daily dose by men is in the range of 25 – 50 mg, by women, the maximum is 25 mg in one day. The maximal possible period of the use of mesterolone is 4 – 5 weeks. When anabolic-androgenic steroids with strong tendency to aromatize are used simultaneously, the antiestrogenic effect of mesterolone is increased in combination with tamoxifen citrate or clomiphene citrate.
