When you start taking bodybuilding more seriously, you will start hearing terms like steroids and testosterone. These terms can be a bit confusing, but it is important that you understand these as they will directly affect muscle growth or muscle loss. All of this starts with testosterone and this is what it is all about.

What is testosterone

Testosterone is the male hormone that is responsible for male characteristics like large muscles, body hair and a masculine voice. These are called the anabolic characteristics of testosterone. However, it is also responsible for the development of the male reproductive organs, otherwise known as the androgenic properties.

Bodybuilders love testosterone simply because of its ability to develop muscles, huge muscles. Unfortunately, the body only produces a limited amount of testosterone. In bodybuilding, the bigger the muscles are, the better. Bodybuilders will always strive to gain bigger muscles than their competitors and this resulted in bodybuilders with extremely huge muscles.

Bodybuilders are able to gain these huge muscles by using anabolic androgenic steroids or steroids for short. Steroids are additional testosterone for the body to use so that muscles can grow much bigger.

Natural production of testosterone

However, it is also important to note that when the body realizes that it has high testosterone levels, it will stop producing this hormone naturally. There will come a time in steroid use when the production levels drop down to zero.

It is potentially dangerous for a body not to produce testosterone normally. You may be thinking that this would be fine if you continually use steroids. Unfortunately, the continuous use of steroids is also very dangerous and could be fatal.

Fortunately, the body is able to recover when the use of steroids is stopped. The body will start to produce testosterone once more and dangerous situations can be avoided.

You will need to realize that once you start using steroids, the body will no longer be able to produce testosterone to the levels that it originally did no matter what you do. When you stop taking steroids the testosterone levels in the blood start to diminish. When this happens, any muscles that you gained will be lost because the body does not produce its own testosterone by this time.

In order to prevent this from happening, certain PCT supplements need to be taken to help the body to produce testosterone. These drugs may help a bit, but they do not have the ability to tell the body to produce testosterone at the levels that it once produced.

Testosterone in bodybuilding

Testosterone is anything and everything when it comes to bodybuilding. Higher amounts of testosterone partnered with intense workouts and proper diets will result in huge muscles. The body won’t be able to produce enough testosterone to meet the demands of bodybuilders today and this is the reason why a good majority of bodybuilders use steroids.

So, if you want to take bodybuilding to a competitive level, then you will certainly consider the use of steroids. However, you will need to realize that once you take this road, your body will never again return to its normal level.
